Comparison of Gridded DEMs by Buffering

Comparing two digital elevation models (DEMs), S1 (reference) and S2 (product), in order to get the quality, has usually been performed on sampled points. However, it seems more natural, as we propose, comparing both DEMs using 2.5D surfaces: applying a buffer (single method, SBM) or (double DBM). The SBM DBM approaches have used lines accuracy assessment and, this paper, generalize them DEM surface, so that area of surface (in case SBM), volume DBM) are involved, similarly S2. results obtained show across methods, recognizes presence outliers vertical bias while allows richer complex analysis based voxel intersection. Both methods facilitate creating observed distribution functions eliminate need for hypothesis normality discrepancies allow application quality control techniques proportions. We consider is suitable when much greater than preferred approximately equal.
